Introduction

Prepositions in Italian function nearly the same as in English. They form phrases to describes actions, such sul tavolo (on the table).

The tricky aspect of Italian prepositions is remembering which preposition to use in a given context. Italian prepositions don't always translate one-to-one with English prepositions.

Also, Italian prepositions never come at the end of a sentence, like the might in English. For example, "She is coming in" does not translate to lei è venuta in. Rather, you say Lei entra.
