"Questa è la storia della mia vita. È così triste."

Or, better,

"Questa è la triste storia della mia vita"

"So sad" refers to the life or how the subject feels? The translation may vary.

Note: "That" = "Quella", but you did the right thing putting "Questa", instead. ;)
