Elizabeth Soto asked 07 Oct 11verb usage "avere" or any other verb.
I need to understand why this sentence "Posso avere una pizza per favore" uses the verb without conjugation. Why just not write it like this? "Posso ho una pizza, per favore." When to conjugate the verb and when not too? Thanks

It's like in English.
Consider this sentence:
"Can he have one beer?"
"Can" is the auxiliary verb, so "have" must not be conjugated.
In Italian it's the same.
"Può avere una birra?"
"Può" is the auxiliary verb, so "avere" must not be conjugated.

It's because I used "Può" [ the infinitive is "Potere" ], which is 3rd person singular. ;)
"Can he...?" = "Può...?"

But how can you tell who the person we are talking about is? You said he how do I know we are talking about he instead of them? Is it because you used "una birra" 3rd person singular? Thanks
