The modern english use of Purple makes things a bit difficult to explain...
We usually use "Viola" or "Violetto" for both, even if the these colors refer more specifically to Purple.
Purple must not be confused with the italian "Porpora"!
Even if the words match as for their literal translation, their meaning doesn't...
"Porpora" is a type of dark red.
